ROB HOWE

Strange, True Beauty

15 Sep 2026 – 26 Sep 2026

Strange, True Beauty is a collection of 18 paintings selected from Rob Howe’s recent Wollongong Art Gallery exhibition Transience Atlas.

The paintings document the people, places, and everyday encounters Howe experienced over four seasons. At the heart of the work is the act of attention. Howe's subjects are not necessarily chosen because they are exceptional, but because something in them has caught his eye and stayed with him. In this way, Howe’s paintings reflect a kind of personal mapping of what is close at hand. Taken together, the works form a loose portrait of a life and its surroundings—an accumulation of encounters with the things we notice, love or strive to return to.
