NEW PAINTINGS

Adam Pyett’s paintings encourage close contemplation. Focused on paint and image-making, Pyett intentionally restricts his subject matter to landscapes in order to intensely explore light, form, brushwork, colour and the very nature of painting itself.
Pyett explains, 'There is an internal logic to a painting. For example the feeling of sunlight on leaves is achieved by creating the right relationship between the colours used for the leaves against those used for the sky and those used for the shadows. The relationship between the colours in the painting is more important than the colours as seen in nature.’
Pyett graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Painting) from the Victorian College of the Arts. A solo survey exhibition of his work was held at Geelong Gallery in 2017. His work is held in public and private collections throughout Australia, including at the National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of Ballarat, Geelong Gallery, Artbank and Monash University Museum of Art.
