Sean Crowley
Sean Crowley’s practice centres on imagination, play, and architecture, constructing painterly environments where the familiar and the transcendent coexist. He examines how emotional experience can shape a sense of place, exploring the ways objects and landscapes emerge and relate within perceptual processes.
Grounded in architectural thinking and traditional drawing, his work establishes a structural basis for ongoing formal experimentation. Rather than reproducing concrete scenes, his paintings unfold as sensory fields formed through layered colour and gesture. Viewers encounter shifting perceptual possibilities that reveal subtle displacements of emotion and cognition.
Crowley holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (2021) and Graduate Diploma (2022) from the National Art School, Sydney. He has previously studied (BDes.Arch USyd) and worked in architecture and urban design and completed the Intensive Drawing Program (2019) at the Royal Drawing School, London.
Crowley has participated in group exhibitions in both Australia and internationally, held a number of solo exhibitions in NSW and has been a finalist in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award (2024) Waverley Art Prize (2022) and the Mosman Art Prize (2025, 2022). His work is held in private collections both in Australia and overseas, Art Bank and The Macquarie Group Collections.
