Ella Dunn (b. 1994, Sydney) spent her formative years growing up in the mid-north coast of NSW and is currently based in Melbourne. In 2017, she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at the Victorian College of the Arts.

Dunn’s art practice focuses on figurative, narrative based works. She uses paint to explore her immediate surroundings and delve into the intimacy of domestic scenes and personal experiences. She investigates connections to place, memory, and relationships, in particular, exploring the relationship between fictional and personal narratives and how they can be skewed or exaggerated.

In 2024, Dunn was awarded an Ian Potter Cultural Trust grant to undertake a research residency in Arraiolos, Portugal. Most recently, she was named the 2025 winner of the Bayside Painting Prize. She has also been shortlisted for numerous prizes, including the Darebin Art Prize (2026) Mosman Art prize (2025) Bayside Painting Prize (2024), Waverley Art Prize (2024), Geelong Contemporary Art Prize (2024), the Len Fox Painting Prize (2024), and the Paul Guest Drawing Prize (2024). Dunn is a past recipient of the National Gallery of Victoria Women’s Association Award for the VCA Graduate Show (2016) and the John Vickery Drawing Scholarship (2015).
