Decade marks ten years since the presentation of Scottish-born artist Joseph McGlennon’s first series of highly complex photographic dioramas of flora and fauna, drawn mainly from Australia’s contemporary and post-colonial experience and history. The exhibition is a curated selection of iconic images from McGlennon’s ten series of works to date, and includes four new works from his Silentium series. This first comprehensive survey exhibition of McGlennon’s work held in Melbourne is presented by Sophie Gannon Gallery and Michael Reid Sydney.
‘McGlennon’s worlds are so lush that are almost a new Eden, seemingly effortless blends of traditional wildlife photography with naturalist documentary flavours. His images orchestrate simulacra in such a manner that they bring the natural world to the viewer as if just on the other side of a glass menagerie.’
