In his paintings—often developed as a series—Jordy orchestrates a subtle see-saw between the figurative and abstract, a familiar tension in his evolving visual language. His work draws on memory, observation, and imagination, creating a balance between fleeting impressions and structured compositions.

During a road trip in 2024, a chance encounter transformed his perspective—a bright red railway crossing sign, glinting in the afternoon sun, stopped him in his tracks. This striking image lingered, appearing in hundreds of preliminary sketches and emerging as a recurring motif and visual catalyst.

For months, the railway sign wove through Jordy’s work, acting as an anchor amidst sketches of fish, snakes, shoes, snowmen, matchsticks, equestrian obstacles, and steam pipes—elements constantly intersecting, much like the Railway Crossing sign itself.

The resulting series captures the steady rhythm of rails—imparting a sense of order, familiarity, and direction—while also unfolding like an open road, inviting quiet exploration and unexpected turns.

See-Saw presents an exploration of experience and experiment, showcasing Jordy’s ability to distil passing moments into compositions that balance contrast and harmony with a sense of measured spontaneity.
