Interior Architecture presents a collection of eleven paintings that identify the overlooked beauty in everyday spaces. Working from life, Milne’s works explore the balance between structural precision and the fluidity of the paint.

Predominately based around a focus on structure, tone, and colour, Milne draws inspiration from artists like Euan Uglow (whose meticulous approach to measurement and form creates paintings of incredible presence) and Harry Wingfield's clarity, warmth and his ability to elevate humble subjects through careful attention. Like Wingfield, Milne seeks to find poetry in the everyday.

Her chosen medium—oil on board—plays an important role in Milne’s visual language. The smooth, receptive surface of the board grants a directness of application that canvas often resists, providing immediacy and speed. The fluidity and loose consistency of oil paint commands a swift and expressive approach to the process of painting, clearly visible in the finished work. Working from life creates a relationship with each space - built through close observation of the subject matter - to showcase the beauty in our surroundings that we might otherwise overlook.

Born in Cambridge (UK) and now living in Newcastle, Milne has exhibited regularly in the UK and NSW. Interior Architecture is Milne’s first exhibition in Melbourne.
