ELYNOR SMITHWICK

Elynor Smithwick’s painting process is contemplative and cyclical, involving both accumulation and erasure. Focusing on the stillness of daily life, her inspiration often comes from fleeting moments - sunsets, shifting skies - that offer a quiet sense of presence and connection. These ephemeral glimpses uncover beauty within the ordinary.

At the heart of Smithwick’s approach is her method of layering. Her artworks are never fixed; they shift and morph over time. The beginning of a composition may morph into something else and she may veil it with a fresh coat of white paint - a gesture that opens space for new ideas while subtly preserving the past. Faint traces linger beneath, echoing memory’s persistence: altered, but not erased.
