For the past decade, Adam Pyett has been fascinated with still-life painting. Focused on paint and image-making, Pyett intentionally restricts his subject matter to the still-life and landscapes, in order to intensely explore light, form and brushwork and the right combinations of colour. Pyett brings a freshness to painting, one that encourages close contemplation of his evocative works. Featuring sprigs of native Australian flowers such as gums, wattles and bottlebrushes in deliberately narrow tonal ranges, Pyett’s paintings are magnetic, not only capturing but also embodying their subjects.

Adam Pyett graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Painting) from the Victorian College of the Arts. His work is held in public and private collections throughout Australia, including in the collections of the National Gallery of Victoria, Artbank, Monash University Museum of Art, McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park and the Macquarie Bank Collection.

Adam Pyett at the Art Gallery of Ballarat

Adam Pyett is included in the upcoming exhibition Romancing the Skull at the Art Gallery of Ballarat, opening this Saturday 14 October 2017. The exhibition looks at the depiction of the skull in art and examines why we continue to be so enamoured with this iconic symbol. Pictured is Pyett's Vanitas Ramones, 2014.

Adam Pyett at Geelong Gallery

Adam Pyett's solo survey exhibition, Still life painting, is now showing at Geelong Gallery until 16 July 2017. Curated by Lisa Sullivan, the survey exhibition includes works spanning over ten years of Pyett's career and charts his longstanding interest in the still life genre.

Mining traditional subjects from leaves and flowers, transparent vessels, and skulls through to those that reflect popular culture such as drink cans and rock t-shirts, still life is the genre through which Pyett explores his primary interest, the subject of painting itself.

Adam Pyett at ACCA

Adam Pyett has been selected as an artist in Chapter 2 of Painting. More Painting at ACCA. The exhibition brings together a range of painting practices that reflect the medium's enduring importance and its recent return to the centre of much public debate.

Pyett's work, Silver princess gum flowers, 2015 (pictured), is typical of his approach to the still life genre, featuring rough, daub-like brush strokes in high contrast colours.
