Reflecting on her original studies in the fields of Microbiology and Limnology (Freshwater Ecology), for the
last two decades Vera Möller’s projects have focused on the marine environments of the Great Southern Reef, Great Barrier Reef, the Victorian coast, Port Phillip and Western Port Bays.
Working across diverse mediums and formats, Möller’s practice revolves around slippages between real
and imagined biospheres. In the construction of immersive installation environments and of bodies of work
in painting, sculpture and photography, Möller constructs fictional hybrid zoological and botanical specimens
and integrates these either into existing natural terrains or into imaginary biological scenarios.
After training as a biologist in Germany, Möller migrated to Australia in 1986. She later completed a BFA
and an MFA at Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne, followed by a PhD at Monash University.
Her work has been exhibited throughout Australia, as well as in the USA, Hong Kong, China and Japan.
