Shrine Time is a solo exhibition by Daniel To and Emma Aiston of design studio DANIEL EMMA, presented by Sophie Gannon Gallery for Designwork 06, the sixth in an annual series of exhibitions dedicated to presenting the best Australian design in a commercial gallery context.
Shrine Time includes new works exploring the concept of memory – the making and preservation of memory; collective memories and cultural and personal identity; and how we deal with grief, loss and recollection. These small memorials allow for contemplation and act as reminders of people, places and periods in time of personal importance. The works also act as a home in which memories can be connected to, reflected upon, respected and celebrated.
Adelaide-based industrial designers Daniel To and Emma Aiston established the design studio DANIEL EMMA in 2008. To and Aiston create works that are ‘just nice’, using simple forms and drawing influence and insight from Australia’s diverse cultures. Their collaborative design practice encompasses projects ranging from objects and furniture to major installations. Works by the duo have received national and international attention, and have been exhibited in Paris, London, Berlin, New York and Tokyo.
This event is part of Melbourne Design Week 2022, an initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the NGV.
